El Papa y los jóvenes
Veinte jóvenes de la diócesis de Gualeguaychú participarán de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud que se realizará desde hoy y hasta el 21 de agosto en Madrid, España.
Los jóvenes de todo el mundo están llegando al encuentro del Papa Benedicto XVI por tierra, mar y aire. Se trata de decenas y decenas de miles de peregrinos de todo el mundo que participarán de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) junto al Sumo Pontífice.
Los organizadores estiman que serán entre 450 mil y 500 mil jóvenes quienes vivirán la experiencia única al encontrarse con gente de todo el mundo y poder compartir un mismo pensamiento porque son Iglesia. E incluso algunos calculan que esa participación podría hasta triplicarse, para dar una idea de la magnitud de la Jornada y las dificultades que hay que superar para organizar semejante encuentro.
Casi 200 países participan de este encuentro de jóvenes, que renueva las ilusiones en quienes comienzan a vivir el futuro cada vez de manera más cotidiana.
Fue el beato Juan Pablo II el creador de estas Jornadas Mundiales de la Juventud. Durante su largo pontificado celebró diecinueve; algunas tan concurridas, que pulverizaron los mayores récords de asistencia y participación y algunas convocatorias tuvieron el marco de más de 2,5 millones de jóvenes, cifra jamás superada en una actividad de similares características. ¿Qué líder mundial hoy es capaz de reunir en un mismo espacio a tantos miles y miles de jóvenes? La respuesta obliga a reconocer que la Iglesia tiene un mensaje actual para las generaciones que serán dirigentes en el mañana.
Quienes han vivido estas jornadas aseguran que el mensaje que se recibe es gratificante, pero al mismo tiempo implica un desafío de compromiso con el tiempo y el mundo. No es un mensaje demagógico sino todo lo contrario. No hay promesas vanas, sino esperanzas concretas.
El propio Juan Pablo II predicó de manera incansable que había que rechazar la injusticia en todas sus formas, que había que tener fortaleza para decirle no al placer sin reglas morales; y del mismo modo desterrar de la conducta diaria el odio y la violencia.
De alguna forma –en rigor, en todas las formas- estos encuentros proponen caminos de crecimiento con Dios, es decir, con justicia, amor y paz.
Benedicto XVI abonó este espíritu, cuando en su mensaje para esta jornada advirtió: “La elección de creer en Cristo y de seguirlo no es fácil. Se ve obstaculizada por nuestras infidelidades personales y por muchas voces que nos sugieren caminos más fáciles. No os desaniméis. Buscad, más bien, el apoyo de la comunidad cristiana”.

Seguramente, cuando comiencen a desplegar su participación, sabrán que están siendo acompañados por innumerables amigos, compañeros, conocidos y familiares y que pese a la distancia, les llegue la oración, el afecto y el apoyo necesario para vivir plenamente estas Jornadas Mundiales.
Sí, veinte jóvenes de la diócesis de Gualeguaychú están viviendo esta experiencia y una comunidad de creyentes y de no creyentes los acompañan. No es un viaje más, es una peregrinación de vida.
